Over the years, our focus has
increasingly been on fine antique travel views, primarily of the
19th century. The camera did not become popularized until the end of
the 19th century. In it's stead, magnificent productions combining
descriptive text and superb hand colored travel views filled the
imagination of an evermore curious readership. Chief among these magnificent works are the renowned hand-colored lithographs by David Roberts R.A. of "Egypt, Nubia and the Holy Land", 1842-9. Lawrence Goodhue has specialized in Roberts' prints since 1989. He has done original research on Roberts, particularly at the British museum at Yale. He has also lectured extensively on Roberts. |
